The Zika Virus is the newest threat in mosquito-borne illnesses. The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health is closely monitoring the world events and making plans to enhance the summer mosquito surveillance in Cerro Gordo County. For more than ten years, the Department has been conducting a mosquito surveillance program that includes weekly mosquito tabulations. From these tabulations, we have not collected the mosquito species that are carriers of Zika Virus. However, traditional monitoring techniques will need to be enhanced to include additional collection methods. As our surveillance program begins later this spring, we will be providing regular and timely updates.
